Harpoon

Logan Airport, Boston, MA Visited: June 5, 2024

What happens when sober airport passengers about to board a plane need to loosen up? What happens when a brewery also sells food, because drunken customers also need true bread and not just liquid bread? Your humble reviewers sought to answer this question when visiting a Harpoon outpost at the Boston Logan Airport.

Harpoon lobster roll

As a loyal reader of Project Lobsterland you may ask, "is anything at the airport done well at all? How can you judge the quality of an establishment's lobster roll based on their performance in an airport? Is the fact that this is located in terminal 'A' a reflection of its quality, or just a happy coincidence?"

The lobster roll at Harpoon is served on a utilitarian metal platter which could be used as a weapon in a bar fight. Thick and sturdy, it was an adequate means of transporting the main attraction from kitchen to table. The charm ended there. The lobster roll was strangely weighed, tipping over under its own weight and unable to stand on its own. While there was an early hope that this would be because of an abundance of overflowing lobster, instead what was found was a bun that was partially torn on one end, causing a disruption to the force.

And while the bun was otherwise acceptable, the lobster meat was tainted with very strong, very crunchy celery that, rather than enhance the flavor, actually became a distraction, like pineapples on a pizza, or ketchup on a sirloin steak. This choice on Harpoon's part was disappointing and left the reviewer wanting more. While there was a small serving of potato barrels on the tray as well, the disappointment of overwhelming celery-ness detracted from the surprise that this was the first establishment to serve this crunchy potato as a side.

So the myth was busted on this day — being in terminal "A" only means that Delta passengers have a chance to eat a "D" rated lobster roll. We'll see you at the Terminal C Wahlburgers for another underwhelming experience next time. Don't cry for me, "A"rgentina.
